Why Over-The-Counter Sprays Fail Against Southern California Argentine Ants
The Argentine Ant Phenomenon in Riverside & San Diego
Southern California is home to one of the largest continuous Argentine ant (Linepithema humile) supercolonies on earth. Unlike native ants that defend territories against each other, Argentine ants cooperate across thousands of square miles.
A single yard can harbor multiple interconnected sub-colonies with hundreds of active egg-laying queens.
The Trap of "Budding"
When homeowners spray perimeter ants with standard grocery store aerosol sprays, the pyrethroid acts as a repellent barrier. The foraging worker ants outside die immediately, but surviving ants inside the wall sense the chemical stress.
This triggers an instinctive biological reflex known as "budding": the colony splits, queens scatter in opposite directions, and within 48 hours, you have trails invading three rooms instead of one.
The Non-Repellent Solution
Knockout uses advanced non-repellent transfer formulations. Foraging ants cannot detect the chemical, so they walk through it freely, collecting micro-particles on their legs and bodies.
They carry the chemistry back into the nest and share it via social grooming (trophallaxis), eradicating the queens and collapsing the entire nesting network.
