The holiday season is upon us. It’s a time for celebrating and a time for giving. As you think about who will be the recipients of your gift-giving this year, don’t forget about some of the great local charities that could use your support. As a local pest control company serving Fallbrook and Temecula, we have a lot of respect for the charities in our community that strive to make it a better place to live.
Small, local charities don’t have the amount of overhead that larger regional or national organizations have, so more of the money you donate will usually go directly to the people being helped by the organization. Here are a few of the nonprofits that are doing some great work in our area:
The Fallbrook Food Pantry offers year-round food assistance to families in need in the Fallbrook area. They are always in need of financial donations, as well as donations of non-perishable food items. (You can see a list of their most needed items here.) They also accept donations of homegrown produce, which is given directly to those in need of food assistance through their weekly grocery distributions.
During the holidays, the Fallbrook Food Pantry also conducts the Christmas Adopt-a-Family Program, which allows individuals and groups to be paired with a family in need to provide them with a holiday meal, as well as gifts, shoes, and clothing for the family’s children. To participate in the Adopt-a-Family Program, contact the Fallbrook Food Pantry at (760) 728-7608 by December 15, 2017. You can also email them at info@fallbrookfoodpantry.org for more information.
Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary is the only nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue group in North San Diego County. It is run completely by volunteers who are dedicated to saving, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned and surrendered dogs and cats. Monetary donations, as well as the donation of your time, are always appreciated. You could also give one of the animals at the Sanctuary a new home this holiday season by fostering or adopting. Contact them at (760) 685-3533.
In Temecula, Project T.O.U.C.H. (which stands for Together Our Unity Conquers Homelessness) is doing some great work with the homeless population in the area. They provide transitional housing and emergency shelter during the winter months, as well as employment assistance, transportation, food, and medical assistance. They also partner with Social Services, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, and mental health service providers to help people get the care they need.
Like with any charity, monetary donations are always appreciated, but if you’d like to give something tangible, diapers, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and grocery gift cards are great options.
These are just a few of the many amazing charities serving the Temecula and Fallbrook areas. If you have a favorite local charity, we’d love to hear about it, and if you don’t, consider giving your time or resources to one of the charities listed above. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping those in need, especially during the holiday season.
