A question we often get at Knockout Pest Control is this: “Do you use safe methods for removing termites?” We get it—we are dealing with your home or place of business and no one wants to breathe in bunch of harmful chemicals. We use several different methods for termite removal for our Temecula and Murrieta customers, all of which are safe and effective.
Heat Treatment for Termite Eradication
For customers with limited infestations, we are able to offer heat treatment for the elimination of termites. This involves no use of chemicals whatsoever. With heat treatment, we bring the interior temperature of the wood to about 135 degrees and keep it there for an hour. This is a very effective way to eliminate termites, while allowing you to stay in your home and keeping it free from any chemicals.
Orange Oil Termite Treatment
Orange oil is also a popular green termite control option. It is suitable for localized drywood termite (but not subterranean termite) infestations. It contains d-limonene as its active ingredient—a chemical with low toxicity that’s extracted from the rinds of oranges. It is found in many popular household cleaning products.
Spot Treatments
For localized termite infestations, another option is wood injections or topical treatments. These methods can be extremely effective in eradicating termites in certain circumstances.
A Word About Fumigation
Whole-home fumigation, also called tent fumigation, when done by a professional, responsible termite control company, is a completely safe and effective choice. The gas used in termite fumigation is a non-residual gas, meaning it leaves no lasting residue on any surface of your home. Sometimes, fumigation is the only option for effective termite removal (like for large, well established termite colonies, or ones in inaccessible areas).
