Last month on our blog, we talked about the different levels of toxicity in pest control products (Danger, Warning, and Caution). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates pest control products and categorizes them based on how harmful they are if ingested, or if they get on your skin or in your eyes. Every product used by pest control companies is put in one of three categories, so technicians and consumers can compare “apples to apples” when it comes to toxicity levels.
As we mentioned in the last blog post, almost all of the products we use at Knockout Pest Control fall in the “Caution” category, which is the least toxic of the three.
Most of our customers appreciate the fact that we use products with low toxicity levels, but we know there are some throw-caution-to-the-wind-types out there who would like us to use the most powerful chemicals available to rid their homes or businesses of pests. These are usually people who have been dealing with unwanted pests for a long time or who have had a major infestation recently. They are at their wits end and will go to almost any lengths to get rid of the problem.
Fortunately, it’s not necessary to use products in the “Danger” category in order to effectively exterminate pests and keep them from coming back. The products we use are extremely effective without being highly toxic.
A lot of the effectiveness comes in the application of pest control products.
Our pest control technicians at Knockout have received extensive training in the application of pesticides. They know how and where to apply the chemicals so they make the biggest impact. The way in which they apply them also helps keep your family and pets safer. They don’t just spray randomly—they spray carefully and strategically. We use backpack sprayers and handheld canister sprayers, rather than tradition power sprayers, which help prevent any application mistakes. And they always follow the specific safety guidelines for each product. Even so-called “green” pest control products can be dangerous if applied incorrectly. Application is important and we take it seriously!
We are constantly researching new products and new application practices as they are introduced. We will always go with the safest option that is still effective in ridding your property of unwanted pests.
